The Silver Fund Collection celebrates great artistic achievements of the Georg Jensen Silversmithy, the world-famous firm founded in 1904 by the brilliant Danish designer and silversmith, Georg Jensen (1866-1935). Presented here in stunning, full-colour photographs are hundreds of pieces of Georg Jensen holloware, many of great rarity, including bowls, boxes, beakers, candelabra, chandeliers, clocks, dishes, pitchers, tea sets, trays and other items.

These wonderful creations are drawn from the collection of The Silver Fund, the world's foremost source of estate Georg Jensen silver. The pieces are arranged chronologically, thus permitting the reader to follow the evolution of design within the firm and to appreciate the contributions of its many innovative designers. There is a wealth of information about every piece, including design number, designer, production date, dimensions and weight. The Foreword, written by the late Sigvard Bernadotte, provides the famous designer's reflections on what it was like to work for the Jensen firm, with his views on the firm's greatest qualities. The Introduction traces the life of Georg Jensen and the history of the company he founded, and analyzes Jensen's distinctive artistic style.

It also discusses the time-honoured techniques that generations of Georg Jensen silversmiths have used and the essential role that these craftsmen have played in making Georg Jensen silver among the best in the world. The book also features a unique English translation of a memoir written by Georg Jensen in 1926. In it, he discusses his childhood, his earliest artistic inspirations, his training as a sculptor and metalsmith, his experience as a ceramist, the establishment of his small silversmithy and its later growth, and the contributions he hopes he made through his life's work. Because it is one of the very few autobiographical works by Jensen, this memoir is an especially important source of information about him. Georg Jensen believed in giving designers full credit for their work. In that same spirit, this book offers informative profiles of the talented designers whose creations are presented. In addition to Jensen himself, those designers are: Gundorph Albertus, Sigvard Bernadotte, Ib Bluitgen, Ove Brøbeck, Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe, Nanna Ditzel, Oscar Gundlach-Pedersen, Inger Hanmann, Hans H. Henriksen, Piet Hein, Jørgen Jensen, Søren Georg Jensen, Henning Koppel, Arno Malinowski, Jørgen Møller, Harald Nielsen, Verner Panton, Gustav Pedersen, Henry Pilstrup. Johan Rohde, Allan Scharff, Henning Seidelin, Alev Ebüzziya Siesbye, Minas Spiridis and Magnus Stephensen. A section on the company marks and other marks typically found on Georg Jensen holloware explains their meanings and how to decipher them. This unique section will allow the reader to establish the dates of pieces, their designers and other information about their history. An extensive bibliography contains key publications concerning Georg Jensen, Georg Jensen silver, the Jensen designers and related subjects. Georg Jensen Holloware: The Silver Fund Collection is an essential addition to the libraries of collectors of Georg Jensen silver, museum curators, design historians, antique dealers, appraisers, designers, decorators, students of twentieth-century applied art and others who are interested in fine silver, craftsmanship and design.
